FAQs
We have put together some of our most frequently asked questions. If your question is not answered below, please call us and we would be happy to help.
Every case is different but as a guide, smile makeovers can take as little as two to three appointments over a two week period.
Veneers are custom made to correct your unique dental problems. Therefore we invite you to book a complimentary consultation with Dr. Mervyn Druian.
He will assess your smile and devise a suitable treatment plan for you. During this consultation, Mervyn will also talk about fees and answer any questions you may have.
We also offer interest free extended payment options, which can be discussed with our receptionists after your consultation. These include 0% interest options over 6, 12 or 24 months.
We practise “minimalist dentistry,” therefore, in the majority of cases the tooth structure is not at risk.
Generally speaking, less than half a millimetre is removed from the front of the tooth.
This is to allow room for the veneer and to make sure the porcelain is strong enough to protect the treated area.
Dr Mervyn Druian is one of the founding members and current secretary of the British Dental Bleaching Society (BDBS). This is a group of dentists who are lobbying for stricter guidelines, so only dental professionals can perform a tooth whitening treatment.
Our advice to you is always go to a dental professional if you are going to have your teeth whitened.
To our knowledge, no evidence has been documented where a tooth whitening (from a dental professional) has damaged teeth.
Recent research of the Nu Radiance Duet whitening system has shown that there are no changes to the tooth surface from this treatment.
We have come across no literature showing any structural changes or irreversible damage to the tooth structure.
Dental bleaching has been undertaken safely for the past 60 years.
The colour will remain stable for approximately two years or more, but this is down to your home care.
If you are a smoker or have a tendency to eat and drink heavily coloured foods, your whitening results won’t last as long.
Usually one appointment of one hour and then up to two weeks of at home treatment.
A further appointment may be required but only in exceptional cases.
There are a couple of options for the appearance of straighter teeth.
Veneers are the perfect choice for those who want to correct slightly crooked teeth or to close gaps between the teeth.
If your teeth are more crooked and / or you need to correct your bite, then braces are the answer.
For straight teeth in as little as a couple of months we recommend Cfast.
Contact us for a consultation to discuss your options.
We are strong believers in preventative treatment. We recommend that everyone has a check up at least once a year and a minimum of three trips a year to your hygienist.
Not only are we concerned about the health of your gums and teeth, but dentists are trained to spot oral cancer signs, which if caught early, has a 90% success rate.
Our advice is simple, please go!
Around one half of all dental patients experience anxiety during their dental visits, for some this leads to dental phobia. Like with any fear or anxiety there isn’t one solution for everyone.
Be kind to yourself and allow yourself time to feel comfortable. Having a fear of the dentist is common, therefore our dentists, nurses and hygienists have plenty of experience in helping patients manage their anxiety – it’s not new to us and we are always here to help!
If you’re new to a dental practice then ask to visit before having treatment (when possible). Become familiar with the surroundings and prepare some questions to ask the team during your visit. Start small, you don’t need to start treatment right away during your first appointment, instead you can book in for a consultation and talk through the procedure at your own pace.
Some dental practice may have treatments in place to help nervous patients during treatment. We offer NuCalm, a non-sedative calming treatment to our patients, contact us to find out more.
